The Croatian Flutists Association (HDF) has announced the 9th International Flute Competition Flauta Aurea, to be held 27–28 November 2025 at the Dugo Selo Music School, near Zagreb, Croatia. Since its inception, Flauta Aurea has established itself as one of the country’s leading platforms for young flutists, attracting participants from across Europe and beyond.
Founded in 2003, the HDF unites flute educators, performers, and enthusiasts with the mission to promote flute playing, advance music education, and connect the Croatian flute community with the international stage. Through competitions, masterclasses, publications, and collaborations, the Association plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of flutists.
Competition Structure
The 2025 edition of Flauta Aurea will feature three main disciplines: Flute, Piccolo, and Chamber Music. Participants will be grouped into distinct categories by age and experience, offering opportunities for both emerging talents and advanced young professionals:
- Aurea Butterflies – a non-competitive exhibition for the youngest performers
- Aurea Jeunesse – competitive categories for flute and chamber music, subdivided into age groups
- Aurea PRO – for advanced flutists and piccolo players born in 1995 or later
Repertoire & New Works
In keeping with HDF’s commitment to artistic growth and repertoire development, the competition will include newly commissioned works by contemporary composers Nena Ćorak and Branko Okmaca. These pieces will be made available to participants after publication, offering them the opportunity to premiere fresh contributions to the flute repertoire.
Opportunities for Growth
Flauta Aurea is more than a competition — it is a gathering of passionate musicians, educators, and audiences. Competitors perform for an international jury, gain valuable stage experience, and engage with fellow flutists in a supportive yet challenging environment. Winners often go on to further success in national and international competitions, while all participants benefit from the exposure and artistic exchange that the event fosters.
Registration & Participation
Applications are open until 25 October 2025. Members of the Croatian Flutists Association in good standing are eligible for a 20% discount on the competition fee (excluding accompanist costs). Performance order will be determined by random draw, and participants must report at least one hour before their category begins.
By combining high artistic standards, a welcoming atmosphere, and a dedication to the future of flute performance, the Flauta Aurea competition continues to inspire and elevate the art of flute playing in Croatia and beyond.
