A Global Initiative by Flute Almanac
The Young Flutist Spotlight is a global initiative by Flute Almanac created to recognize promising pre-college flute students from around the world and to celebrate the teachers who guide their artistic development.
Beginning in April 2026, Flute Almanac will highlight a small number of young musicians each month whose dedication, musical growth, and artistic promise deserve recognition.
This initiative is designed to encourage the next generation of flutists, help young talent become more visible to the international flute community, and build a growing archive of emerging artists worldwide.
A Recognition Initiative — Not a Competition
The Young Flutist Spotlight is not a competition.
Students are not ranked or compared, and there are no prizes or placements. Instead, the initiative is editorially curated and aims to recognize young flutists whose musical work, progress, and commitment stand out in meaningful ways.
In some months, if no submissions meet the editorial standards of the feature, a selection may not be made.
Who May Apply
The Young Flutist Spotlight is intended for pre-college flute students who are actively developing their musical abilities through lessons, school programs, youth orchestras, festivals, and competitions.
Applicants should normally be between 8 and 18 years old at the time of submission.
Age Divisions
Junior Division
Ages 8–11
Intermediate Division
Ages 12–14
Senior Division
Ages 15–18
Students already enrolled in full-time conservatory or university music programs are generally outside the scope of this initiative.

Recognition for Students and Teachers
Students selected for the Young Flutist Spotlight will receive the official Flute Almanac Young Flutist Spotlight badge, recognizing them as a Selected Artist for their featured month.
Their teachers or mentors will also receive the Flute Almanac Recognized Teacher badge, acknowledging their role as Mentor of a Featured Young Artist.
Selected students may also be highlighted on the Flute Almanac website and social media platforms, helping introduce their work to the wider international flute community.
For families and teachers who wish to further commemorate this recognition, optional certificates and additional promotion opportunities may also be available.
Editorial Selection
Submissions to the Young Flutist Spotlight are reviewed by the editorial team of Flute Almanac.
Each month, the editorial team may highlight a small number of young flutists across the different age divisions.
As with all editorial features, selection is based on the overall strength and interest of the submitted material, including musical dedication, artistic development, and the story each young musician brings to the flute community.
The Young Flutist Spotlight Honor Roll
At the end of each year, Flute Almanac will publish a special Young Flutist Spotlight Honor Roll, listing all students recognized during the year along with their teachers.
Over time, this Honor Roll will grow into a valuable international archive of emerging flute artists and the educators who support them.
Invitation to the Global Flute Community
Flute Almanac warmly invites teachers, parents, and young flutists from around the world to participate in the Young Flutist Spotlight initiative.
Through this program, we hope to discover and celebrate dedicated young musicians whose passion for the flute is already shaping their artistic path.
Teachers and mentors are especially encouraged to nominate promising students whose dedication, musical progress, and enthusiasm for the flute deserve recognition.
