In 2026, the 15th Slovenian Flute Festival returns with special significance, celebrating 30 years of artistic vision, education, and international collaboration. What began as a national initiative has grown into a respected global gathering, drawing distinguished artists, emerging talents, and dedicated flute enthusiasts to the heart of Zagorje ob Savi.
Organized by Glasbena šola Zagorje ob Savi, the festival continues its mission of fostering musical excellence through performance, pedagogy, and cultural exchange.
A Festival of International Distinction
Over three decades, the Slovenian Flute Festival has steadily evolved into a platform where artistic mastery meets education. The 2026 edition reflects this legacy through an exceptional roster of internationally acclaimed flutists, including:
- Emmanuel Pahud
- Paolo Taballione
- Juliette Hurel
- Demarre McGill
- Aslıhan And Say
- Tilmann Dehnhard
- Fabian Johannes Egger
They are joined by the acclaimed ensemble Quintessenz and Slovenian composer Blaž Pucihar, whose works highlight the vibrant national voice within an international framework.

Two Days of Music, Learning, and Discovery
The festival offers an immersive experience combining concerts, masterclasses, workshops, and lectures.
Saturday, September 19
The opening day unfolds with performances by Juliette Hurel and Demarre McGill, alongside masterclasses led by Emmanuel Pahud and Paolo Taballione.
A highlight of the day is a dedicated concert of works by Blaž Pucihar, offering insight into contemporary Slovenian flute repertoire, accompanied by a pre-concert discussion moderated by Nenad Firšt.
The day concludes with a keynote lecture by Drago Kunej on the Neanderthal flute, discovered in Slovenia and considered one of the oldest known musical instruments—connecting modern artistry with humanity’s earliest musical expressions.
An evening recital by Emmanuel Pahud brings the first day to a powerful close.
Sunday, September 20
The second day emphasizes both artistic refinement and educational outreach.
Workshops led by Tilmann Dehnhard and Ana Kavčič Pucihar provide practical insight for students of varying levels, while masterclasses by Juliette Hurel and Demarre McGill continue the festival’s strong pedagogical tradition.
Concert performances feature Aslıhan And Say and Fabian Johannes Egger, culminating in a grand closing concert by Paolo Taballione with the Orchestra FVG under the direction of Paolo Paroni.
A Meeting Point of Tradition and Innovation
What distinguishes the Slovenian Flute Festival is not only its artistic level, but its philosophy of connection—between generations, cultures, and historical perspectives.
From the ancient resonance of the Neanderthal flute to contemporary compositions and modern performance practice, the festival offers a rare continuum of musical thought. It is a space where students learn directly from leading artists, where audiences experience both established and emerging voices, and where the flute is explored not merely as an instrument, but as a cultural and expressive force.
30 Years Forward
As the festival celebrates its 30th anniversary, it stands as a testament to sustained artistic dedication and community building within the global flute world. Its continued growth reflects a broader truth: that meaningful musical traditions are not static—they evolve through dialogue, education, and shared experience.
In Slovenia, this evolution has found a vibrant home—one that continues to inspire flutists worldwide.
