About the Competition

This prestigious biennial event honors the legacy of German-Danish composer Friedrich Kuhlau, born in Uelzen in 1786. It has gained international recognition for emphasizing flute ensemble categories, fostering creativity and collaboration among flutists.

Categories:

1. Flute Solo: For unaccompanied performances.
2. Ensemble Two Flutes and Piano: Highlights ensemble coordination.
3. Ensemble Three or Four Flutes: Focuses on larger flute ensembles.
4. Online-Category (2 to 5 instruments): For remote participants.

Eligibility:

• Individual or average age of ensemble members must not exceed 32 years.
• Maximum age for any member is 35 years; minimum age is 16 years.

Judging and Prizes:

• Judged by esteemed flutists and educators.
• Total prize money: up to €11,000 for Categories I-III, and up to €1,800 for Category IV.
