5th Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition – Nice 2024
During the event in Nice, from October 24 to 26, 2024, the Larrieu Competition will organize a flute festival in partnership with the associations La Traversière and Jean-Pierre Rampal. This festival will feature an array of activities, including:- Concerts: Showcasing performances by renowned flutists and emerging talents.
- Masterclasses: Offering invaluable learning opportunities from distinguished professionals.
- Lectures: Providing insights into various aspects of flute playing and musicology.
- Workshops: Hands-on sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Exhibitions: Displaying flutes and scores, highlighting the history and craftsmanship of the instrument.
Celebrating Maxence Larrieu’s 90th Birthday
On October 25th, the festival will dedicate a special day to celebrate the 90th birthday of the eminent flutist Maxence Larrieu, the namesake of the competition. À Travers La Flûte Association will organize a series of events to honor this milestone, including:- Concerts: Featuring performances by close associates, former students, and jury members.
- Lectures: Sharing stories and insights about Maxence Larrieu’s illustrious career.
- Gala Concert: Bringing together a community of musicians and admirers to celebrate their honorary president.
The Competition Final
The climax of the event will be the Competition Final on October 26th, where the future laureates will perform accompanied by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lionel Bringuier. Highlights of the final include:- Jacques Ibert’s Concerto: Performed by the finalists with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Nice.
- Mozart’s Quartets: Accompanied by a string trio composed of soloists from the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.

In its fifth edition, the Maxence Larrieu-Nice International Competition remains committed to its mission of highlighting the artists of tomorrow while promoting its core values. The competition’s organizing committee, including musicians, the Nice Conservatory under the direction of Thierry Muller, jury members, accompanying musicians, patrons, and sponsors, will come together to welcome and support young talents.
