The 6th International Theobald Böhm Competition for Flute and Alto Flute
The 6th International Theobald Böhm Competition for Flute and Alto Flute will take place from Monday, March 10, to Friday, March 14, 2025, at the Schloss Nymphenburg, Johannissaal, in Munich, Germany.
This prestigious competition, organized by the Theobald Böhm Society and Theobald Böhm Donation, commemorates the legacy of Theobald Böhm, renowned flutist, composer, and inventor of the Böhm flute.
Prizes
1st Prize: €5,000
2nd Prize: €3,000
3rd Prize: €2,000
(If there are two winners for 1st or 2nd prize, each receives €4,000 or €2,500, respectively.)
Special Prize: Best alto flute performance
Special Prize: Best participant under 20 years
Competition Venue and Transport
Location: Schloss Nymphenburg, Johannissaal

Telemann: One Fantasia (flute solo)
2nd Round (March 13, 2025)
Repertoire (Flute in C): Select 3 pieces, approximately 25 minutes

Hindemith, Martinů, or Prokofiev: Sonata (1st movement)
Bozza: Image or Karg-Elert: Sonata appassionata, Op. 140

3rd Round (March 14, 2025)
Repertoire: Select 2 pieces, approximately 20 minutes

Concert of the Winners

Aims and Mission
The competition honors Theobald Böhm (1794-1881), a pivotal figure in flute history, by promoting his works, his innovation of the alto flute in G, and the original Böhm flute system. It aims to highlight the best interpreters of Böhm’s works and foster appreciation for his contributions to flute repertoire.
