The 2025 International Festival of Flutes will be held from July 24 to 27 at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. The event brings together flutists from a wide range of traditions and cultures to explore both historical and contemporary practices related to the flute.
The festival program includes performances, masterclasses, workshops, and lectures, with a focus on flute traditions from around the world. These include Western classical, Celtic, Appalachian, Native American, and rare flutes from Asia, South America, and other regions.
One of the central features of the event is the gathering of a large, multi-generational flute choir representing diverse musical backgrounds. Daily gala concerts will feature guest artists and ensembles, and an outdoor cultural heritage concert will include additional community activities such as artisan booths and food vendors.
Workshops and sessions will cover topics such as performance techniques, improvisation, flute building and repair, and aspects of the music industry. The festival’s thematic focus spans multiple areas, including Western Classical, Celtic, Old Time, Appalachian, Native American, global traditions, youth engagement, and instrument making.
This year’s invited artists include Nina Assimakopoulos, Greg Patillo, Iva Ugrčić, Joanne Lazzaro, Medicine Horse Singers, SabroSon Latin Band, Francisco Barbosa, Aurora Celtic, Dan Parasky, Troy Paolantonio, Alice Fleischman, Cal Stroud, Alyssa Schwartz, Kirsten Erwin, Jackson Thee, Sammy Holloman, Juan Carlos Narvaez, Jose Ramirez, Nathan Wilson, Eftihia Arkoudis, Juniper Parker, Ruth Seib, Gary Gini, Michael Broderick, and Andrew Holbert.
