The last week of October marked a landmark achievement for Pettry Piccolos as Adam Pettry, the company’s founder, proudly sent out the first-ever Low C Pettry Piccolo. This custom commission was no ordinary task; it represented a milestone in piccolo craftsmanship, as the instrument may be one of the few – if not the only – of its kind in the piccolo world.
The original order called for a Mopane piccolo with an array of specialized features. During the design phase, however, it evolved into the Low C model – a unique instrument that has set a new standard in piccolo construction. Boasting a conical bore and a fully pinless sterling silver mechanism, this piccolo is equipped with an impressive range of features: a vented C key, split E mechanism, Brossa F# key, high G# facilitator, Omni trill key, and a low C foot. Another distinctive feature is its silicone Pettry Piccolo Pads, produced entirely in-house for exceptional quality.
The finishing touches didn’t stop there. The custom piccolo was housed in an oil-rubbed, waterfall bubinga wood case, hand-crafted by Pettry himself. To ensure a luxurious and protective exterior, he collaborated with Wirkkala Designs for a chocolate leather case cover with burgundy velvet lining. The instrument also came with a selection of wave headjoints, one featuring an inserted sterling silver riser.
